How are parents involved?

It is essential that staff at school get the whole picture of the child; we do this by talking to our parents regularly and having various methods of communication available. If a child is identified as needing additional support, our first point of call would be to discuss our concerns with parents and inform them of their child's needs, strengths and areas of concern. Equally, if a parent wishes to voice a concern which they have with regards to their child's progress and development, we encourage this to be shared as soon as possible. This can be done by contacting your child's class teacher directly or emailing the SENDCo at s52senco@valley.solihull.sch.uk

Plan reviews:

We review our Needs Based Plans and My Support Plans termly. Parents are encouraged to attend plan meetings where previous targets will be reviewed and new targets will be set. The setting of targets is a collaborative activity between everyone involved with the child, including external professionals as appropriate.

For children with an EHCP, parents will be invited to an annual review of their child's support. This will be a meeting with the class teacher, SENDCo and any other professionals who have been supporting your child.

Coffee Mornings:

In Spring 2, we will begin running coffee mornings which will take place on Teams. This will be run by the SENDCo and attended by some of the professionals who support your child's learning and development. During these sessions, we will be providing strategies and support for specific areas of need. There will also be opportunities for you to ask questions you may have about how best to support your child at home too.

SEN parents evenings:

Following our termly parents evenings with your child's class teacher, the SENDCo will make contact to offer you an additional SEND parents meeting to discuss any further queries you have with a specific focus on additional needs. You will receive a letter to book in for this appointment - these are optional meetings and if you choose to attend, can take place via phone call, Teams or in person.
