How is school accessible to children with SEND?

Both school buildings are on one level and are fully accessible to children with physical disabilities through the use of portable ramps as necessary and Disabled toileting facilities are available in both buildings.

We ensure that equipment used is accessible to all children, regardless of their needs. We can also provide a range of adaptive equipment to support individual need. These include, but are not limited to, coloured overlays, chewellery, use of electronic equipment such as lap-tops / ipads, writing slope boards, writing grips, 2B and ergonomically designed pencils, alternative pens & scissors, move ‘n’ sit cushions and weighted lap pads. All tables and chairs are at appropriate heights. Visual Timetables are used in every classroom and individualised resources are available for those children who benefit from them. These could include Task Boards, Now and Next Boards, Communication Strips and Visual lanyard prompts.

We strongly encourage all children to participate in school trips and school journeys – these are an important part of your child’s time at Valley. All school trips are all risk assessed and we ensure there are appropriate measures taken to ensure all children’s safety and well-being when off-site. Please contact your child’s class teacher should you wish to discuss this in more detail.

The school follows the Test Administrators’ guide and other guidance issued by the Standards and Testing Agency to ensure that all children can access and fully participate in tests and exams. We apply for extra time for some children with SEND and ensure that all resources necessary are provided.

The school has an accessibility plan which is reviewed regularly.
